Hydrate — Strict Hydration Reminder

Last updated: 20 June 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the Hydrate application ("Hydrate", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our Android application. We have written this policy to be as clear and direct as possible — we do not sell your data, we do not collect personal information, and the app works primarily offline.

If you have questions or concerns, contact us at vaibhavgupta.rishikesh@gmail.com.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Hydrate does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information. We do not require you to log in with Google, Facebook, or any third-party service.

2. Camera Access

Hydrate requests camera permission solely for the photo verification feature in Strict Mode. When you open the verification screen, your camera activates to detect whether a drinking vessel (cup, glass, mug, or bottle) is visible in frame.

Camera permission is required only if you use Strict Mode. If you use standard reminder mode, you may deny camera permission and all other functionality continues to work normally.

3. Notifications

Hydrate requests permission to send notifications in order to deliver your scheduled water reminders. Notification content (reminder text, drinking progress) is generated locally on your device and is not transmitted to any server.

Hydrate uses Android's AlarmManager.setAlarmClock() API to schedule reminders. This means reminders are managed entirely by the Android operating system and do not require a background service or network connection to fire.

4. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following information is stored in a local database on your device only:

This data is stored using Android's Room database and DataStore, both of which keep data local to your device. This data is included in Android's standard app backup if you have backup enabled in your device settings, but it is not accessible to us.

If you uninstall the app, all locally stored data is permanently deleted.

5. Diagnostic Logging (Debug Builds Only)

Debug versions of Hydrate (used during development and testing) maintain a local log of reminder scheduling events — specifically, when a reminder was scheduled and when it actually fired. This log is used to diagnose missed reminders on Samsung and other devices with aggressive battery management.

This log exists only in debug builds distributed directly to testers. It does not exist in the release version available on Google Play. No log data is transmitted anywhere.

6. Analytics and Crash Reporting (Release Builds Only)

The release version of Hydrate (available on Google Play) includes two Firebase services operated by Google:

Firebase Crashlytics

Crashlytics automatically reports crashes and non-fatal errors to help us identify and fix bugs. Reports include the device model, Android version, app version, the code location where the crash occurred, and a stack trace. Reports do not include your name, email address, phone number, reminder content, or drinking history.

Firebase Analytics

Analytics collects anonymised event data such as which screens are viewed, whether Strict Mode is enabled, and how often reminders are completed versus skipped. This helps us understand which features are most useful and prioritise improvements. No personally identifiable information is associated with these events.

Both Firebase services are operated by Google LLC. Firebase data is processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of analytics data collection at the Android system level via Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation.

These Firebase services are disabled in debug builds. They are active only in the production release on Google Play.

7. Third-Party Services

Hydrate does not integrate with any third-party social networks, advertising networks, payment processors (outside of Google Play's standard billing), or data brokers. The only third-party service active in the production app is Firebase (Google), described in Section 6.

8. Children's Privacy

Hydrate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

9. Data Retention

Local on-device data is retained until you uninstall the app or clear the app's data from your device settings. Crash reports in Firebase Crashlytics are retained for 90 days per Google's standard policy. Analytics events are retained for 14 months per Firebase's default retention setting.

10. Your Rights

Because Hydrate does not collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal data to access, export, or delete from our side. All user-generated data (your reminder schedule and drinking log) lives entirely on your device and is under your control at all times. You can clear it at any time by going to Settings → Apps → Hydrate → Storage → Clear Data on your device.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, and believe you have rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA that require us to take action, please contact us at vaibhavgupta.rishikesh@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

11. Security

Because Hydrate processes data locally on your device and transmits only anonymised crash and analytics data over encrypted HTTPS connections to Firebase, the attack surface for data exposure is minimal. We do not operate servers that store user data and therefore cannot be subject to a server-side data breach affecting your personal information.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after a policy change constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
